We have been transitioning the host for our web server offsite to our software vendor First Class.  During the transition, web controllers lost access to the web page accounts until recently.  Other access privileges had to be restored to allow full access as before.  These announcements include those made since January 17, some of which may be past but are included for archive purposes.  Announcements should be back to being posted daily from now on.

Reminder:  Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up on Wednesdays February 1 and 8, 4:30-8:00 PM.  Parents should call 740-797-4521 to schedule an appointment.

Girls Basketball:  Congratulations to the Lady Bulldogs on their 55-40 victory over Vinton County.  Dominique Dosek, Elena Lein and Gracie Staten scored in double figures.

Baseball:  There will be a meeting for all people who want to participate in baseball on Tuesday January 24 after school in the weightroom.  This is for anyone not participating in a winter sport.

Drama:  There is a Tech meeting today (Friday) for Alice after school.

Alice Audtions:  Auditions for Alice are next week!  Information packets are available in the main office.  No preparations are required.  Sign up for a time in the cafeteria.

Voter Registration:  Any student who will be 18 years old by November 6 can register to vote in this year’s primary election March 6.  Pick up a voter registration form from the main office or your government teachers Mr. Rogers, Mr. Chapman or Mr. Dearing.

Art Club:  will meet this Wednesday after school until 4:00.  We will be printing T-shirts.

Prom Committee:  For anyone interested, Prom Committee will have their first meeting Tuesday January 24th right after school in Mrs. Shafer’s room.  Any Juniors or Seniors who would like to join please come.  For any questions contact Jacob Pratt or Kelsey Bowman.

Senior Trip:  Seniors, start saving your money!  Senior trip is May 24 to Cedar Point but tickets will be on sale in February.  Exact prices and sale dates will soon be determined.

Science Olympiad:  Attention all students wishing to take part in this year’s Science Olympiad competition: meet in Stork’s room Tuesday January 24 at 2:40 PM for meeting to choose our event schedule and begin competition preparation.

One Acts:  Attention cast of Nafton One Act.  There will be a rehearsal today at Baker Center (1st floor) at 4 o’clock.  If you cannot attend, please contact Eli or Caleb.  Also, there will be a rehearsal Saturday at 1 at Baker Center.  Meet on 1st floor.

Poetry Out Loud:  Attention POL participants:  Thank you to everyone who participated in the POL semi-finals.  The finalists are posted outside Mrs. Hall’s and Mrs. Shaw’s room.  Finalists will need to pick up a consent form for the finals from Mrs. Hall.  The finals are January 23rd, 7-9 PM in the AHS auditorium.

Matrix Valentines: will be on sale during lunch today (19th)!  Valentines are 25 cents each.  Express your feelings to that special somone for all to view in the February issue of Matrix, our school newspaper.

Lady Bulldogs (past):  Come out tonight and support the Lady Bulldogs in their battle with Vinton County for 2nd place in the TVC.

Writing Club (Past):  We will be having a Writing Club meeting this Thursday January 19th after school.  We will be editing and deciding on submissions for the literary magazine.  Please attend!

Senior Portraits are due by January 20th.  If yours will not be done by then please conct Mrs. Herges and reserve a space.

Symphonic Choir Auditions for the 2012-2013 school year will be held in February.  Please see Mrs. Hudson in room B122 for further details.

College Testing:  Information on standardized testing is available in the Guidance Office.  Be sure to add the school code to your paper or on-line application so that we receive a copy of your results.  Athens High School code is 360-245.

Scholarships still open:
Attention Seniors:  The KFC Colonel’s Scholars program is now open and accepting applications.  If you are a senior with a 2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in college next Fall in a public college in Ohio and are a US citizen or permanent resident, this scholarship could be for you.  Students will be required to respond to a few short answer questions in this on-line application.  Information is in the guidance office.  Application deadline is February 8, 2012.

Attention juniors: Are you passionate about art? Are you looking for scholarship money to help buy supplies to build your portfolio? Stop by the guidance office for a copy of the Judy Morgan Portfolio Award. Applications must be completed, signed and returned to guidance by February 14 for consideration.

Attention Students:  The Best Buy Scholarship is now available to all students in grades 9-12.  Students must have a cumulative 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate a commitment to community volunteer service and plan to enroll in college the fall following high school graduation.  Stop by the guidance office for more information.  On-line application deadline is February 15, 2012.

Attention Seniors:  If you are planning to major in college in science, technology, engineering or math, you should stop by the guidance office for a copy of the Buick Achievers Scholarship program information.  Applicants must by US citizens or have permanent residence in the US.  Application deadline is February 29, 2012

Attention Seniors:  If you have a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale and plan to enroll full time in a four year or two year college next year, you should consider applying for the Foodland Scholarship.  Applications are available at the Foodland store in The Plains.  Application deadline is March 1, 2012.

Attention Seniors:  If you are planning to pursue at least an associates’ degree in a program related to manufacturing , transportation or logistics, and you have 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, stop by the guidance office for a copy of the “Our Community’s Foundation” Scholarship.  Completed applications must be submitted online by March 7, 2012.

Attention Seniors:  An easy online scholarship application is available.  If you know which college you will be attending, stop by the guidance office for information on the US Bank Scholarship.  There are no essays to write and no minimum GPA that must be achieved.  Application deadline is March 31, 201

B. Davis Scholarship:  The B. Davis Scholarship is now available. If you are willing to write a 1000 word essay, this scholarship opportunity is for you! There is no GPA requirement or test score minimum. Stop by the guidance office for the topic and other information. Application deadline is May 28, 2012.
