Interact: There will be an Interact meeting Wednesday the 25th after school in Mrs. Hall’s room. New members are always welcome. We hope to see you there.
Freshman Meeting: Friday February 3rd at 10:45 in the auditorium for information regarding class rings with Herff Jones.
Baseball: All students interested in playing baseball who did not come to the meeting yesterday need to see Coach Gibson in Mr. Slattery’s room (B106) this Friday. All people playing a winter sport should see him.
Reminder: Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up on Wednesdays February 1 and 8, 4:30-8:00 PM. Parents should call 740-797-4521 to schedule an appointment.
Reds Caravan: Come to the Reds Caravan at the Market on State Thursday from 6:30-8:30 PM. Bring your camera to see Reds General Manager & President of Baseball Operations Walt Jocketty, Reds Manager Dusty Baker and more of your favorite Reds.
Environmental Endeavors: There will be an Environmental Endeavors meeting after school next Thursday, January 26 in Mr. Weinfurtner’s room E102, We will be planning and coordinating upcoming volunteer projects so make sure to attend!
Battle of the Bands: Students interested in participating and performing in Battle of the Bands 2012 should see Mrs. Shafer in room G130 or junior class officers for sign up information and also for submitting a design for this year’s T-shirts. Battle of the Bands will take place on March 9th and 10th in the AHS Auditorium. Deadline for signup is February 1st so get busy and sign up.
Alice Auditions: Auditions for Alice are Wednesday after school in the Band Room. Will have call backs on Thursday. For more information pick up a packet in the main office.
Attention All Chess Club Members: There is a short but VERY IMPORTANT meeting this Friday afternoon in Mr. Miller’s room. We will be discussing club T-shirts and distributing order forms. Please make sure to come if you would like to buy a T-shirt. All new members are welcome to join Chess Club.
Attention Seniors: Are you the child or grandchild of a person who worked for Bellisio Foods? If so, get to the guidance office ASAP for the Bellisio Food Scholarship Award as the application deadline is February 17, 2012. Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Attention Seniors: Another easy on-line scholarship application is available. If you know which college you will be attending, stop by the guidance office for information on the US Bank Scholarship. There are no essays to write and no minimum GPA that must be achieved. Application deadline is March 31, 2012
Attention Seniors: A financial need scholarship, the William D. Squires Scholarship, is now available from the guidance office. If you demonstrate financial need based on your EFC, have a specific career goal, will write an essay and have a minimum 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, stop by the guidance for a copy of this scholarship. Applications can be downloaded but must be submitted in paper form. Scholarship application must be postmarked April 5, 2012.
Garden Club Scholarship: The Ohio Association of Garden Clubs is offering a scholarship to graduating seniors. Applicants must enroll in an accredited college and take courses leading to a career in the field of horticulture, conservation, nature and beautification, landscaping design or landscape contracting. Students must secure a transcript, letter of recommendation and write a statement of their education and occupational goals. Application deadline is March 15, 2012.
Attention Seniors: The James Kura Memorial Scholarship Competition is now in place. If you are a senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, are planning to go to a 4 year school next year and are willing to write an essay regarding a specific courtroom issue, this competition might be for you. Stop by the guidance office for more information and the selected topic. Application deadline is March 2, 2012.
Seniors: The M E Companies Scholarship is now available in the guidance office. Students must have a 2.5 on a 4.0 GPA, enroll in an accredited university and have participated in college prep courses among other criteria. Students pursuing an degree are eligible to apply but special consideration will be given to those seniors who plan to pursue a degree in civil engineering. See the guidance office for more information. Application deadline is March 30, 2012.
Attention Seniors: If you are planning to apply to Ohio University and you have not done so, the applications deadline for OU is February 2 — yes, this is next Wednesday. Please bring a stamped envelope to Mrs. Berry or Mrs. Powell so that your transcript can be sent by the deadline.
Doughnut Sale: Freshman Student Council will be selling doughnuts and hot chocolate this Friday January 27 before school in the atrium. Remember to bring your money!
Matrix Valentines will be on sale Wednesday and Friday this week for 25 cents each. Look for a Matrix staffer during your lunch period.
Voter Registration: Any student who will be 18 years old by November 6 can register to vote in this year’s primary election March 6. Pick up a voter registration form from the main office or your government teachers Mr. Rogers, Mr. Chapman or Mr. Dearing.
Art Club: will meet this Wednesday after school until 4:00. We will be printing T-shirts.
Senior Trip: Seniors, start saving your money! Senior trip is May 24 to Cedar Point but tickets will be on sale in February. Exact prices and sale dates will soon be determined.
Symphonic Choir Auditions for the 2012-2013 school year will be held in February. Please see Mrs. Hudson in room B122 for further details.
College Testing: Information on standardized testing is available in the Guidance Office. Be sure to add the school code to your paper or on-line application so that we receive a copy of your results. Athens High School code is 360-245.

Attention Seniors: The KFC Colonel’s Scholars program is now open and accepting applications. If you are a senior with a 2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in college next Fall in a public college in Ohio and are a US citizen or permanent resident, this scholarship could be for you. Students will be required to respond to a few short answer questions in this on-line application. Information is in the guidance office. Application deadline is February 8, 2012.
Attention juniors: Are you passionate about art? Are you looking for scholarship money to help buy supplies to build your portfolio? Stop by the guidance office for a copy of the Judy Morgan Portfolio Award. Applications must be completed, signed and returned to guidance by February 14 for consideration.
Attention Students: The Best Buy Scholarship is now available to all students in grades 9-12. Students must have a cumulative 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate a commitment to community volunteer service and plan to enroll in college the fall following high school graduation. Stop by the guidance office for more information. On-line application deadline is February 15, 2012.
Attention Seniors: If you are planning to major in college in science, technology, engineering or math, you should stop by the guidance office for a copy of the Buick Achievers Scholarship program information. Applicants must by US citizens or have permanent residence in the US. Application deadline is February 29, 2012
Attention Seniors: If you have a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale and plan to enroll full time in a four year or two year college next year, you should consider applying for the Foodland Scholarship. Applications are available at the Foodland store in The Plains. Application deadline is March 1, 2012.
Attention Seniors: If you are planning to pursue at least an associates’ degree in a program related to manufacturing , transportation or logistics, and you have 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, stop by the guidance office for a copy of the “Our Community’s Foundation” Scholarship. Completed applications must be submitted online by March 7, 2012.
