Post Secondary Options Enrollment:  Students who are considering participating in the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program (SB 140) at either Hocking College or Ohio University during the 2012-13 academic school year must attend a mandatory meeting with one of their parents or guardians on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 6:00pm in the Athens High School Auditorium. Individual or make up meetings will not be scheduled. Current Athens High School students already participating in the program do not need to attend.</p>
<p>Seniors:  Are you planning to pursue a major in graphic design, Web Design, or another art?  If so, stop by the guidance office for a copy of the eSchoolView Web Design scholarship.  Applicants must create a home page and write a 1-2 page essay.  All submissions are due by March 30, 2012 and must be done on-line.</p>
<p>Attention Seniors:  If you are planning to major in college in science, technology, engineering, or math, you should stop by the guidance office for a copy of the Buick Achievers Scholarship program information.  Applicants must be US citizens or have permanent residence in the US.  Application deadline is February 29, 2012.</p>

If you demonstrate financial need based on your EFC, have a specific career goal, will write an essay and have a minimum 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, stop by the guidance for a copy of this scholarship. Applications can be downloaded but must be submitted in paper form. Scholarship application must be postmarked April 5, 2012.</p>
<p>AP test registration period is just around the corner. Students will be allowed to register for AP tests in the guidance office beginning March 1 through March 30. Cost is $87 per exam and payment must be made at the time of registration. There is NO LATE registration.</p>
<p>Attention Junior Girls:  Applications are now available in the Guidance Office for Buckeye Girls State.  If you are interested in learning more about state and local government, Buckeye Girls State would be an excellent opportunity for you.  Please pick up your application as soon as possible as deadlines are quickly approaching.</p>
<p>Boys Tennis conditioning will start on Monday February 27 from 3:00-4:00 PM.  Please dress for outside!</p>
<p>French Club T-shirts are now on sale.  Sign up on Mrs. Read&#8217;s door.  Shirts will be $9 if we sell 39 or more and $12 if we sell less.</p>
<p>Attention all students participating in this year&#8217;s Science Olympiad competition:  Meet in Stork&#8217;s room Thursday February 23 at 2:40 PM for the competition preparation.</p>
<p>Attention all Chess Club members:  Chess Club fundraiser T-shirts are now on sale for $10.  Please place your orderswith Mr. Miller no later than March 2nd.  Order forms are available in Mr. Miller&#8217;s room and in the cafeteria.  Please support the high school chess club!.  There will be a Chess Club meeting Wednesday after school in foom G123.</p>
<p>Senior Follies:  The first Senior Follies meeting will be Thursday March 1st in the cafeteria at 7:00 PM.  We need 70 seniors present to do Senior Follies.  Plan your work schedules accordingly.</p>
<p>Cheer Tryouts:  2012-2013 cheer tryouts will be held in the Athens Middle School gym from 5-7 PM on February 27th, 28th and 29th.</p>
<p>Attention Seniors:  If you are planning to enroll at Ohio University, Hocking, or the Tri-County Adult Career Center next year, a new scholarship is available for you to apply for.  The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce has just announced they will be offering a &#8220;Keep it Local&#8221; scholarship to a graduating senior from this area.  You must obtain a letter of recommendation and write an essay.   Applications must be submitted by the student by March 16, 2012.</p>
<p>Senior Trip 2012 Announcement:  Senior trip tickets are on sale in the Main Office for the month of February.  The cost is $36 per ticket.  Permission forms are also available in the Main Office.  Your permission form must be completed prior to purchasing a ticket.  Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis until the buses reach capacity.  No more tickets will be sold after bus capacity is reached.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) will be administered the week of March 5-9.  One section of the test will be administered each day to all sophomores and any juniors or seniors needing to pass that day&#8217;s testing section.  During this week classes will observe a two hour delay schedule.  Buses will run on regular schedule.  Non-testing students do not have to be in school until 9:45 AM these days and may arrive at school in time to start classes but will need to arrange their own transportation.  Students not testing but riding a bus will be held in the cafeteria study hall until general testing is completed each morning and the students needing additional time are moved to their extended testing time area.  The following week will be OGT make-up testing but we will be on a normal schedule as weather dictates.</p>

<p>Attention Students:  Interact will be holding a meeting Wednesday February 15 after school in Mrs. Hall&#8217;s room.  New members are always welcome and refreshments will be provided!  Hope to see you there!</p>
<p>Attention:  All members of the AHS TEAMS engineering competition team:  Meet in Stork&#8217;s room at 2:40 PM Wednesday to gather materials and make final preparations for this Thursday&#8217;s competition.</p>
<p>ALICE Rehearsal:  The full cast of Alice will rehearse from 2:45-4:30 Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Meet in the Auditorium.</p>
<p>Baseball Open Gym: next Monday February 20th.  Freshmen and sophomores will be from 1-2 and juniors and seniors will be from 2-3:15 in the gym.</p>
<p>Environmental Endeavors: will be recycling this Thursday at The Plains Elementary School.  Meet in Mr. Weinfurtner&#8217;s room after school to arrange carpooling.</p>

<p>Cheer Tryouts:  2012-2013 cheer tryouts will be held in the Athens Middle School gym from 5-7 PM on February 27th, 28th and 29th.</p>
<p>Attention Seniors:  If you are planning to enroll at Ohio University, Hocking, or the Tri-County Adult Career Center next year, a new scholarship is available for you to apply for.  The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce has just announced they will be offering a &#8220;Keep it Local&#8221; scholarship to a graduating senior from this area.  You must obtain a letter of recommendation and write an essay.   Applications must be submitted by the student by March 16, 2012.</p>
<p>Attention Seniors:  Senior superlative sheets are due February 16th.  Turn sheets in to Mrs. Herges in room A114.  Also all seniors need to check the list posted outside the main office to see if you have reserved a senior portrait or turned in their senior picture.</p>
<p>Senior Trip 2012 Announcement:  Senior trip tickets are on sale in the Main Office for the month of February.  The cost is $36 per ticket.  Permission forms are also available in the Main Office.  Your permission form must be completed prior to purchasing a ticket.  Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis until the buses reach capacity.  No more tickets wil be sold after bus capacity is reached.</p>
<p>Attention Seniors:  Just a reminder that many of the local scholarships are due to the guidance office by February 14.  Applications submitted past the deadline will NOT be accepted. Scholarship information was distributed in December and is also available online on the guidance website.</p>
<p>Voter Registration:  Any student who will be 18 years old by November 6 can register to vote in this year&#8217;s primary election March 6.  Pick up a voter registration form from the main office or your government teachers Mr. Rogers, Mr. Chapman or Mr. Dearing.</p>

<p>Attention Seniors:  The Abbott Scholarship application is now available to students who are the child of a Scottish Rite Mason of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction or a member of DeMolay, Rainbow or Job&#8217;s Daughters.  Applicants must have a 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.  The application is available in the guidance office and the application deadline is March 1.</p>

<p>Battle of the Bands:  Students interested in participating and performing in Battle of the Bands 2012 should see Mrs. Shafer in room G130 or junior class officers for sign up information and also for submitting a design for this year&#8217;s T-shirts.  Battle of the Bands will take place on March 9th and 10th in the AHS Auditorium.  Deadline for signup is February 1st so get busy and sign up.</p>

Stop by the guidance office for more information and the selected topic.  Application deadline is March 2, 2012.</p>
