Dance Team Competes with Success

Athens Dance Team successfully placed at their second competition held 2/28/10 at Findlay High School. The team drove 6.5 hours through a treacherous snow storm to compete and ended up placing 2nd in the lyrical performance and 4th in Pom category. The team was extremely happy with the results given the outstanding competition from other teams.

They came back and last week, drilled and modified both routines with more advanced technique and difficulty for their final competition. On Sunday, the team headed to Mansfield High School for the Ohio State Championship Competition. ADT placed second in the Lyrical category and Third in the Pom category. Seniors, Ava Miller and Laura Schaus both placed in the top 3 for the Varsity Solo category comprised of 30 competitors. The team will finish their season with a team banquet on Monday, March 15th. GREAT JOB ADT!!

Congratulations to Joey Young (171) for winning his first round match in the state wrestling tournament. Good luck in the next round.

Word has just arrived that Joey has won his second round match on Friday, March 15 by a major decision 15-2. He will wrestle his next match later this date at 6:00 PM to further advance in the state finals. He is guaranteed to finish at least 6th place in the Division II wrestling tournament.

Junior John Lazear (125) and senior Josh Dingess (112) also qualified for the state tournament but lost their first round matches.

Congratulations to all wrestlers for a great season and especially to our three state qualifiers.

OGT Testing Info – March 8-12

The Ohio Graduation Test will be administered the week of March 8-12 to all sophomores and to any juniors and seniors who have not passed individual test sections. Testing will begin at 7:45 AM through 9:30 AM. Anyone not finishing during this time will be allowed additional time in another testing area. Room assignments for testing are posted on the trophy case outside the cafeteria. Please be on time. Bring tw0 number 2 pencils and something to read or work on should you complete the testing early. No one will be permitted to leave the testing area until testing is complete. OGT calculators will be provided for the math and science sections. Personal calculators are not permitted.

The academic day will be on a two hour delay schedule with regular classes starting at 9:45 AM. Buses will run on their regular schedule in order to bring testing students to school for their start time. Students not testing will be held in the cafeteria until each morning’s primary test session is complete. Students not testing who wish to arrive later for the 9:45 AM start of the academic day must provide for their own transportation. No buses will run to bring students at the later start time.

Make-up Days and School Closings

The April 2 April Holiday is cancelled and will be a make-up day for one of our snow days.

So far, three additional days have been added to the school year. School will be in session on June 4, 7 and 8. Currently, June 8 will be the last day of school. As more days are missed due to weather or other emergencies, additional days may be added to the end of the school year.

Seniors: Please check the “Prospective” honors diploma list on the guidance office window for corrections or additions. Any question, check with your counselor.

Attention Seniors– Make your requests for college or scholarship letters of recommendation as soon as possible. Guidance is quite busy with these as well as scheduling of classes for next year. Make sure they have enough lead time to meet any deadlines.

Amateur Radio Club

Amateur Radio Club will begin Technician license classes on Monday, January 11, 7:00-9:00 PM in Ro0m G118 (computer lab) at AHS. Class is free. Book cost is $19. License test fee due at end of course (March 15) is $15.
